Tassie machinery goes unsold

A group of Tasmanian businesses is disappointed after a heavy machinery auction in the south failed to attract much interest. Source: ABC News

Eight forestry, construction and transport contractors had put up more than 80 items for sale at a property near Brighton.

Auctioneer Philip Brazendale believes many of the sellers were hoping to raise capital to ease the impact on them of the economic downturn. But most items were passed in, or sold at sold at lower-than-expected prices.

“Very hard to get anyone to bid, to be interested,” he said. “Most of the articles, of course, everybody wants to buy them at half price or less and most of them are about one third of the price and still can’t get offers.”
