Supply-demand conference on woodchips

DANA Ltd has secured notable industry speakers for its one-day conference which is on 7 June 2012 and titled “Pacific Rim Woodchip Trade Supply and Demand Trends – A Focus on Australia and its Competitors”.

Dennis Neilson DANA director and organizer for the conference has secured the attendance of Gavin Hao.

Mr Hao is a China-based forestry specialist with USA information company RISI and has worked with Poyry in China and with Stora Enso of Finland. He will discuss prospects for increasing woodchip demand in China.

In recent times China’s hardwood woodchip import volumes have increased considerably and it is likely that with more mills that these may even double over the next five years. The future of the Australian hardwood woodchip export industry relies heavily on these mills.

Another notable speaker is Doug Massey who spent many years in Tokyo with a major Japanese paper and pulp company. He will discuss the pulp and paper industry’s future as well as the industry’s future in Taiwan and Korea.

Other speakers will be discussing softwood woodchip exports and institutional investment in Australian pulpwood timber and plantations.
