The South Australian Government has released the second stage of the Cellulose Fibre Chain study done by Finnish organisation VTT.

Recommendations include producing cellulose fibre for textile industry use and boosting production of materials used for construction.

Chair of the implementation steering committee, Goran Roos, said similar studies had had an enormous impact on forestry industries overseas.

“In the areas where this has been taken up in a sense we are in the middle of a transformation of this industry from a very relative simple industry to a very sophisticated one,” he said.

“What we can see is the speed of transformation and, in Finland for example, the speed is quite enormous.

“We have tens of bio refineries being built and some in operation and some [to be] in operation in the coming years.”
