Senator Colbeck said forestry is a vitally important industry in regional areas and makes a significant contribution to local economies and employment.

“The forestry industry makes an enormous contribution to Australia’s economy and this is especially apparent in regional communities such as Maryborough and surrounding towns,” said Senator Colbeck.

“The Coalition Government understands the importance of the forestry industry and is committed to revitalising the sector and encouraging more investment and stronger jobs growth.”

Senator Colbeck said timber was regarded as the building material of the 21st century and there are many opportunities for innovation and new products from timber.

“We want to return long-term security to the forestry industry and are establishing a 20-year rolling life to each Regional Forest Agreement, providing resource security and a stable investment horizon,” he said.

Senator Colbeck is visiting forestry operations including the Tuan Mill, Laminex Plant and HQ Plantations.
