Prototype loading ramp to convert forwarders into fire engines

Sometimes it is the simple solutions that are the ingenious ones according to Håkan Johansson, landowner in Sala, Sweden and the man behind a new idea to help firefighting efforts using existing forestry machinery. Source: Timberbiz

Recently, Skogforsk, the Swedish forestry research institute, presented a prototype of a loading ramp that can “convert” forwarders into fire engines and facilitate work in forest fires.

It works on the vast majority of forwarders that are already available.

With the help of a new specially built loading ramp, a rescue service’s water tank and firefighting equipment can be lifted over forest machines.

This helps to access forest fires more quickly in difficult terrain and facilitate post-extinguishing efforts.

The changeover is said to take 15-20 minutes.
