If you think that is a lot of trusses, it turns out to be a lot of Canadian SPF dimension lumber as well.
The reason the company went with prefabricated nail plate trusses manufactured off-site with SPF is twofold: construction precision, and speed.
And rightly so, because when you are designing and constructing three wooden structures that are each 130.68 m long and 16.36 m wide – that’s a big job, so you want to make sure everything goes on time, efficient, and smooth.
All three buildings are post and beam, and the floor area per building is 2,188 m².
The three buildings were designed and being constructed by ARCHIVISION21.
The nail plate roof trusses were designed and engineered by Mitsubishi Shoji Construction Materials Corporation and fabricated and supplied by Iwakura.
It’s encouraging to see that joint work being done by Japan Wood Truss Council (JWTC), and COFI continues to expand nail plate truss and SPF lumber use beyond traditional markets and into the post and beam non-residential sector in Japan.
