Margaret pines thinning in May

The Forest Products Commission (FPC) will commence harvesting operations in Margaret pine plantation in early May 2020. The pines will be thinned. Source: Timberbiz

This involves harvesting some trees to provide more growing space for the remaining trees which will grow to maturity before being harvested. The harvesting operation will take 4-6 weeks to complete.

The plantation harvest area is located directly behind the Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) office and depot, west of the Margaret River by-pass road. The southern edge of the plantation borders publicly accessible river walk trails.

Signage will be in place to demarcate the work site with authorised access only. Pedestrian entry to the site is a safety risk and is strictly prohibited.

Haulage trucks will use the DBCA office and depot road off Bussell Highway as entry and exit point with 5-6 truck movements per day expected.
