Logging concerns over PNG’s redefinition of “forest”

There are concerns that Papua New Guinea’s recent move to change the definition of what constitutes a “forest will open up even more of the country to unsustainable logging. Source: Radio National

The PNG Government now says a forest is any land bigger than one hectare, with trees taller than three meters providing a canopy of just 10% of the total area. It is the sort of definition used for the African nation of Sudan, which is mostly desert.
