“Following the changes to the Resource Management Act over the past four years and the unknown content of the still to be revealed Auckland Council Unitary Plan with regard to future tree protection of urban trees there is a lot of concern about the future of urban trees” said Tree Council spokesperson Sean Freeman.

“We want to help people recognise the special role that trees play in our urban environment and the services they provide to our city with some fun and informative events.”

The inaugural Tree Week activities include a Tree Week lecture on the Value of Trees in the Urban Environment.

Following The Tree Council’s AGM Queensland arborist Sean Freeman will speak at the Fickling Centre in a free lecture open to the public.

ATree Week bus tour is planned for 20 October 2013 to tour Auckland’s great trees led by Penny Cliffin, a senior lecturer in the Department of Landscape Architecture, at UNITEC Institute of Technology.
