A recently successful applicant by way of example, was the Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail Steering Committee who applied for funding to supply three bicycle repair stations along the trail.

Chairman of the Riverina Highlands Rail Trail Corporated, Owen Fitzgerald, said the repair stations are well used and support the overall quality experience of the thousands of users to date.

“In just over 12 months, the rail trail electronic counters have clocked over 23,000 users.

“We often see people checking their tyre pressure and using the repair stations given the round trip is 42 kilometres of countryside.

“The broader benefits of the rail trail have been beyond everybody’s dreams. We have had 12 new businesses open in the region, Tumbarumba is vibrant with coffee shops and accommodation reporting record sales.

“The Rail Trail, the first of its kind in New South Wales, has proved a astoundingly successful pilot and compliments further growth in the town with new mountain bike trails and a new bike play ground to teach our children how to ride safely.

“We thank the Hyne Community Trust for recognising the value of our grant request to purchase the bicycle repair stations and also the support of the Tumbarumba Men’s Shed in assisting with the installation.” Mr Fitzgerald said.

Community groups considering applying for a Hyne Community Trust grant this June should start reviewing the guidelines available at https://www.hyne.com.au/hyne-community-trust and consider how their application will provide long lasting benefits to the community.

Projects must be valued over $10,000 in order to meet the criteria.

The application form will be available once the 2021 round is open on 1 June.
