Graeme Black’s passing leaves a legacy for forestry

He was a pioneer, promoting environmental change long before it was mainstream. In 1987, he voluntarily halted the milling of New Zealand’s native forests, showcasing his commitment to sustainable practices.

Mr Black was not only an industry leader but also a fervent advocate for conservation. He met Sir David Attenborough and played a pivotal role in promoting responsible forestry. In 1997, he pushed for his company to become the first in Australasia to achieve FSC certification, setting new standards.

His dedication extended beyond certifications. In 2007, he championed DNA tracking for timber legality, contributing to sustainability.

Mr Black leaves behind a legacy of innovation, sustainability, and environmentalism. His memory will forever inspire us to continue his work towards a more responsible and sustainable world.
