Free field day covers farm forestry

Learn about species selection, timber products, weed management, infrastructure planning and construction, site preparation, plantation layout and maintenance requirements.
The field day will focus on integrating timber plantations into your farm and your lifestyle. The field day will take place on a cattle and timber farm beside the Mary River. The property integrates beef production, plantation and native forest timber production and revegetation.
Required for the day are hat, covered shoes, long pants, water and a packed lunch. RSVP to (07) 5483 6535 or email [email protected]. A locality map and directions to the property will be provided when you RSVP.
This free field day (from 9am to 2pm) is a pre-requisite for landholders wishing to take part in the Re-forest.net Incentive Program. The incentive program is helping landholders to establish and manage timber plantations using best practice planning and management techniques

Learn how to prune and thin your hardwood plantation. Species selection for thinning. Stocking rates, pruning techniques, equipment technique. See a practical demonstration of marking trees for retention, falling trees and pruning.
