The third of its kind to be released by Forico, the Natural Capital Report first put a dollar value on the Natural Capital assets under management by the company.

This year, the 2022 report focuses on the estate’s most material ecosystem services, of carbon sequestration, emissions, habitat for biodiversity, biomass provisioning, water flows and sediment control.

A multi-disciplinary team of foresters, sustainability professionals, environmental accountants and resource information analysts have worked together to find a common language to articulate the value of the estate to both business and society.

In October, Forico won major accolades for its reports at the international Finance for the Future Awards in London, including a Climate Leadership award.

Speaking at COP15, the United Nations’ summit on biodiversity in December, Chief Financial Officer Rayne van den Berg said that ‘forward-thinking CFOs and finance teams were learning to quantify the impacts of natural capital on the balance sheet, facilitating better operational decisions and enabling transparent conversations with stakeholders and investors. This is the way forward if we are to solve the dual climate change and biodiversity-loss crisis and to consider nature and biodiversity in our value-based decision-making.’

Since its beginnings in 2014, Forico has emerged as the largest private forest and land asset manager in Tasmania, with a unique operational model. Plantation timber forests are certified to the highest sustainable forestry standards, while native and natural forest is managed for conservation, biodiversity and cultural value.
