First AFS award for Excellence in Sustainable Forestry

Senator Anne Ruston presented Dr Yee, a senior conservation planner at Forestry Tasmania, with the coveted trophy.

The industry event was organized by Australian Forestry Standard Ltd (AFS) and attracted more than 60 guests from all sectors of the industry.

The trophy and award recognize the life of a man devoted to forestry in Australia. Mr Stanton was CEO of AFS but had previously worked in many other key industry positions.

AFS CEO Dimon Dorries said Dr Yee’s win recognized the work of young people in taking responsibility for carrying forward the forest industry’s message of sustainability and the value of forest certification.

Dr Yee has two Bachelor of Science degrees and a PhD. Her project was ‘the ecology and biodiversity of saproxylic beetles in decomposing Eucalyptus oblique logs in the wet scierophyll forests of southern Tasmania.
