Chairman Martin Dippie said Hartmann was taking on the leadership of a firm in the United States so a search was on for his successor.
Hartmann had changed the business, which pushed up sales 6.5% annually to make $858.4 million in the June 2012 year, returning more than $45 million to members as a rebate, Dippie said.

The business had steadily invested in the co-operative with new stores in major centres and provincial towns, he said.
