Maryvale Environment Manager Rohan Wilks said the committee was currently seeking new members from all walks of life in the hope of broadening its understanding of community needs.

“The committee is an important part of our community engagement process, providing a forum for community feedback,” Mr Wilks said. “We are seeking to better understand changes in our community in regards to the demographic and skills sector.”

Providing a communications platform between the mill and the general public, the committee will offer advice on upcoming projects, sustainability and safety operations of the mill.

The current committee of about 15 is chaired by Latrobe City Council’s general manager of city development, Phil Stone.

Another 10 or so members are sought, particularly those with backgrounds in education, large and small businesses or the forestry sector.

Members would be required to meet on a quarterly basis and a two-year minimum commitment is required.
