The MSD is the major event on the Visy calendar and sees all major equipment shut down, cleaned and inspected to ensure it is operating safely and reliably for the next 12 months.

Access to the Visy Tumut mill is still much more restricted that was pre-pandemic. Drawing on the experience of the two previous MSDs during the Covid 19 pandemic, the Tumut mill will again take precautions to ensure its MSD roll out smoothly.

“2022 MSD will be another busy month with many challenges. Safety is obviously a major concern, and everything is done to ensure a safe workplace for everyone coming to site,” said Johan Stoltz, GM Visy Pulp and Paper Tumut.

“This is our third year with Covid 19; plans have been modified to suit the situation with everyone doing daily RAT tests.”

During the MSD the usual statutory inspections of the boilers and pressure vessels will be undertaken. This is a mandatory requirement which must be done by a licenced boiler maker.

Some 1200 contractors will be working on the MSD, including mechanical and electrical tradespeople, high-pressure cleaning teams and emergency response and safety specialists.
