A Sustainable Timber Tasmania spokesperson said statewide burns would improve the safety of the community production forests and other identified high priority areas.
The spokesperson said burns would also assist with the regeneration of harvested forests. The burns must cohere with a Coordinated Smoke Management System in place across Tasmania.
The system, developed in partnership with the Environmental Protection Authority, is led by the Forest Practices maximum amount of smoke that can be released each day.
Planned burns that will take place if weather permits on Sunday will include:
North-West region:
- Six regeneration burns south west of Smithton
- Two regeneration burns south of Smithton
- One regeneration burn south east of Marrawah
- One regeneration burn east of Arthur River
- Three regeneration burns south west of Wynyard.
Smoke is forecast to travel in a south to south east direction and may be visible from local communities.
South region:
- Two regeneration burns to the north Ellendale
- One regeneration burn to the north west of Judbury
- Three regeneration burns to the north west of Geeveston
- Two regeneration burns to the north east of Southport
- One regeneration burn to the south west of Westerway
- One regeneration burn to the south of Bushy Park.
