Cindy McLeish, State Member for Seymour and Jo Duncan, State Member for Macedon are hosting the event at Victoria’s Parliament House today.

Guest speaker is the Hon Heidi Victoria, Minister for Women’s Affairs.

ForestWorks Chair Julie George said this event at Parliament House provides a vital opportunity for women to meet, network and exchange ideas.

“We’re grateful to both Cindy McLeish and Jo Duncan for hosting this luncheon,” George said.

“It is a great opportunity for the women of the forest and timber products industry to network with female politicians from both city and country so that they are reminded of the importance of this industry to women’s careers, families and communities.

“We know that working in a male-dominated industry can throw up barriers to women in the workplace.

“Women still make up just 13% of the Australian forest and timber products industry workforce and have traditionally found it difficult to join any formal – or even informal – networks with other women in the industry.”

WFTN believes that if industry is to grow and prosper it needs to be attractive to the complete pool of workforce talent and that means expanding the proportion of women in industry.

The WFTN has connected women and helped to raise the profile of women in the industry, supporting cultural change and improving the reputation of the industry as an employer of choice.

The Women in Forests and Timber Network is hosted by ForestWorks and sponsored by Healthcare Insurance on behalf of the whole industry.
