Tasmanian Premier taken to task over ‘lack of action’

Tasmanian Premier Lara Giddings has been taken to task for her seeming lack of action over attacks on Ta Ann.
According to Federal Liberal candidate for Bass, Andrew Nikolic, Premier Lara Giddings says the campaign by some environmental groups against Tasmanian flooring veneer-maker Ta Ann is “absolutely shameful,” which gives rise to the expectation that she will do much more to stop it.
“But what has the Premier done to ensure that disruption of legitimate businesses like Ta Ann is subject to the full force of the law? Have legislated penalties been increased to combat the intentionally-misleading statements that are impacting this business? How has the Premier leveraged Australia’s diplomacy (overseas trade representatives) to ensure that any shameful misrepresentation is balanced by accurate, government-endorsed messages? When did the Premier send a bipartisan delegation to London and Tokyo to put the perspectives of our major political parties first hand?
“If shameful protest action is impacting what the Premier describes as “this important forest company with a genuine commitment to the environment,” why isn’t she doing EVERYTHING within her authority as Premier to end it?”
