Upon successful completion of the course and assessment, attendees will be accredited in the identification and design of search areas, conducting field searches for nests and conducting activity status checks of nests during the breeding season.

Course participants will also gain an understanding of the rationale behind current management recommendations and how the recommended actions should be applied in different scenarios.

The course is relevant for others working in conservation and land management fields, including government agencies, consultants, NRM groups and other organisations, councils and landowners.

Topics to be covered
• eagle biology and life history
• the results of monitoring studies
• desktop identification of nest search areas;
• protocols for conducting nest searchers;
• the use of planning tools to identify risks and management prescriptions;
• introduction to Technical Notes and the recording of nest data; and
• protocols for assessing the activity status of a nest during the breeding season.

Staff from the Forest Practices Authority will deliver the course along with other specialists.

The cost for accredited Forest Practices Officers and forest industry participants affiliated with FIAT, including Forestry Tas staff, is $180 due to the training support from FIAT. The cost for other participants is $240 (inc GST).
