Ken Hay of K & S Timber Supplies of Queensland said it had been a big year for the company, made even bigger by the cyclone and a growing renovation market.
Mr Hay said he supplied the timber for about 20 renovation jobs in just one day.
“This year of course we are certainly up because of the cyclone. It will teeter off early next year, I think,” he said.
“There has been an increase in what is the other part of the business; renovation; it is still growing.
“So fingers crossed that we will probably be one of the fortunate ones that can keep on going on.”
Though Mr Hay described renovation as the “core” of his business, he said it had levelled off during the mining boom.
“Basically everyone was just focused on buying new houses,” he said. “It plateaus out. But we have not ever seen it decline.
“There is and always will be bathroom renovations and kitchen renovations, extensions, new decks… I don’t see it dipping that much.”
Mr Hay said as a whole, the timber industry across the state was showing no signs of slowing down, but attributed his own success to his central Queensland location.
“It is geographically the crown in Queensland to start a business,” he said. “The more business that we can attract, we all end up on another level.”
