New wood database online and TVC – two exciting initiatives from FWPA

Communicating information about designing and building with wood and the environmental benefits of wood are part of Forest and Wood Products Australia’s (FWPA) long term strategy to increase the use of wood in the built environment.
A new website – www.woodsolutions.com.au – is a world-leading online wood products database. Responding to market needs identified by research, this site will provide architects, engineers and other building professionals with the information they need to specify wood and wood products.
The site has been structured to expand over time to become the sector’s equivalent of “Wikipedia” and all in the wood products industry are encouraged to register to review and make suggestions to increase the value of the content and effectiveness of the site.
The site has a provision for supplier listings – these are free to FWPA members and associate members. To participate, please contact FWPA.
The second initiative is the result of a partnership with Planet Ark – a television commercial under the Environmental Edge and Wood. Naturally Better.™ brands.

The spot goes to air on 5th June and will feature prominently in some of Australia’s leading free-to-air and cable TV shows. The campaign will run for over four months with a planned investment of more than $1 million.
In the advertisement, Peter Maddison, architect and host of Grand Designs Australia, explains that wood stores carbon and that carbon is better locked away in wood than free in the environment. He suggests that by choosing wood, people are doing good.
