The 211-page book showcases a collection of breathtaking structure and interiors enhanced by the use of Malaysian timber in selected projects in Malaysia, Singapore, Mauritius and the Maldives.

The book has been divided into five broad sections.

In the Reappreciated section, it highlights the use of wood in restored historical and old buildings, and in the Renewed section, it illustrates the creative ways of recycling old timbers into new uses and built forms.

For readers who want to stretch their imagination, they can always flip to Reimagined pages on how to use timber in different ways.

Those interested in reconstructing vernacular architecture through modern construction and timber technology can always refer to Reinterpreted pages and in the Redefined section, it showcases projects that have pushed the design boundaries using timber.

The well-illustrated pictorial pages are great for Malaysian designers and architects who are willing to shift their perspective of timber like their fellow professionals in countries like the USA, Japan, Canada, France, UK, Australia and New Zealand.

MTC senior director Suria Zainal said these countries were pushing the boundaries of timber engineering, especially through their official policy to use timber in construction.

She said MTC encouraged the use of wood to create architectural masterpieces and contribute to a ‘greener’ future by specifying timber from sustainably managed forests.
