Trade Central is the name given to the site on Amohau St that developers want to turn into a one-stop shop for home and trade businesses in the city.

Work is well under way on the new 8500sq m Mitre 10 Mega site that should be open for business by Christmas.

The store will feature a retail outlet, drive-through and gardening services. It will create about 60 jobs.

The site’s developers Pukeroa Properties No2, is looking for suitable businesses to fill the rest of the site.

EML Ltd’s Ross Parker, who is development manager for the site, said the multi-million dollar development would use the new Mitre 10 Mega as an “anchor tenant” for the new trade and home oriented retail development.

The Trade Central development is the largest development in Rotorua since the 8000sq m Rotorua Energy Events Centre that opened in March 2007.

Trade Central was the result of five years’ planning.

The development is to be constructed in stages, with stage one concluding with the opening of Mitre 10 Mega in December.

Stages two and three would see the construction of another 7000sq m in four different buildings during the next 12 to 18 months.
