MDF firm holds crucial talks

An estimated 100 jobs could be saved after it was revealed a Doncaster company in administration was in talks with other firms regarding a takeover.
BLP UK Ltd has called in administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) after blaming a slump in the housing and retail markets as well as consumer spending on home improvements for its significant losses. The firm based in Sandall Stones Road, Kirk Sandall, employs around 100 staff and is the UK’s leading manufacturer of MDF profiles and pressed cabinet doors and drawer fronts. Now PWC has revealed it is speaking to potential buyers about taking over the company.
In a statement PWC said: “We continue to speak to a number of parties regarding the possibility of a sale of the business as a going concern.”
Coun Karen Hampson, ward councillor for Armthorpe, Barnby Dun and Kirk Sandall, said: “This is excellent news. If someone can come in and save 100 jobs in a place like Kirk Sandall then it’s fantastic.”
