Vice Chancellor Professor Greg Hill has released the first 10 scholarships in time for students enrolling in USC Honours degrees in 2014.

Applications will close on 16 December 2013.

Professor Hill said the scholarships, each valued at $5000 over a year of study, were for new students entering a USC Honours program after completion of an undergraduate degree.

Selection criteria includes: academic merit; research focus and potential alignment to a USC area of research concentration; and the student’s intention or motivation for ongoing study/research and pursuit of a Higher Degree by Research (HDR).

USC’s Pro Vice Chancellor for Research Professor Roland De Marco said the new scholarships would help boost the University’s research capacity.

“Higher Degree by Research students are the ‘engine room’ of research in a University environment, and Honours study is the entry point for progression to Higher Degree by Research study,” he said.

“Accordingly, I expect that these new Honours scholarships will provide an important vehicle for the enrolment of additional HDR students.”
