There have been 350 inquires about employment opportunities at the mill, and 150 businesses who have offered to help complete work on the project.

The ground-breaking project gives a significant boost to business confidence in the region and the forestry industry.

Once complete, the new facility will be Australia’s largest plantation-based hardwood mill and the first ever hardwood cross-laminated production plant.

It was announced last week that the 80-hectare facility will be located in Hampshire, in Tasmania’s North-West.

The Hermal Group has advised that they will lodge a Development Application with the Burnie City Council and the company has committed to an open and transparent approach to the regulatory process. This will involve information sessions with the local community.

The Hodgman Liberal Government has given its full support to this game-changing project and the hundreds of jobs it will provide in the North-West.

The government will also provide a $13 million grant and training support, and a loan of up to $30 million will also be available for the project.
