The application follows the referendum of forest growers earlier this year when 85% of 580 growers who voted supported a levy.

Trust chair Geoff Thompson said the levy of up to 30 cents a tonne of harvested wood, will raise about $6.5 million dollars a year, and will be used to enhance the activity of the forest industry.

Thompson said if the Associate Minister for Primary Industries, Jo Goodhew approves the levy, it would take effect on January 1, 2014.
