Caring, now sharing on natural resource management

The final report on the review of the Caring for our Country natural resource management initiative found that it is on track to meet its goals and support the community in protecting and conserving the environment and increase the adoption of sustainable land management practices.

Caring for our Country commenced on 1 July 2008 and invested more than $2 billion over its first five years. The Australian Government initiated a review in late 2010 to consult with the community on what was working and what could be improved in the future.

More than 4000 people and groups provided feedback that will shape the next phase of Australian Government investment in natural resource management, which will commence in July 2013.

Details of the next phase of natural resource management delivery will be announced later in 2012.

The report was released jointly by the departments of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities, and Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. A copy is available at www.nrm.gov.au
