Canberra for IFA national conference

“One of the reasons we chose Canberra as the venue for our 2013 conference is that it coincides with the city’s centenary celebrations. All Australians have a link with their nation’s capital city, and we sometimes take it for granted. The IFA conference in 2013 presents an ideal opportunity to get closer to the capital,” said conference chairman Stuart Davey.

“Of particular interest to foresters will be the opening this year of a new arboretum as part of the centenary. When complete it will be a realisation of Burley Griffin’s vision where ‘trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants are cultivated for the purpose of conservation, preservation, research, education and display’.”

The program’s key theme areas are:
• Forest politics – policy, management and public perceptions
• Forces for change – financing, social factors, water management; biodiversity considerations; carbon sequestration; operational and market innovations
• Urban forestry

The keynote address – Managing forests in the 21st century: A global view, will be delivered by Dr Peter Holmgren director, Centre for International Forestry Research.
