In conjunction with major partner JELD-WEN, HIA has developed Build Your Future to help fund young builders to gain the qualifications required to be granted a building licence and to get them started on the road to being their own boss.

“Sometimes apprentices or young tradesmen and women are not in the position to finance the additional qualifications they need to become licensed as a builder,” said HIA Managing Director Shane Goodwin.

“A Build Your Future scholarship can help them by taking away the concern of meeting the significant costs of training.”

“The building industry will always have a demand for skilled tradespeople, and by offering scholarships we hope to ensure that talented young builders aren’t locked out of an otherwise rewarding future because of a lack of resources at one point in time.”

To be eligible for a Build Your Future scholarship, nominees must be engaged in the building industry as an apprentice, employee or contractor at the time of nominating for a scholarship and at the time of commencing the scholarship training.

Nominees will be preferably, but not limited to, 25 years of age or younger at the time of nomination.

Full and partial scholarships of up to $7200 are awarded for the following nationally recognised training courses used to gain a licence or registration:

Certificate IV in Building and Construction: Building, Site Management, Estimating, Contract Administration Builders Registration Pathway – Short Courses (WA only).

Applications for scholarships close on 31 October 2012.
