The latest partnership continues the rapid expansion of the Home Timber & Hardware group to 270 stores Australia wide.

The rebrand will see Bretts’ Windsor based site near Brisbane’s CBD, undergo a full refurbishment over the next two months.

Bretts is a third-generation hardware business established in 1913 and specialising in the supply of timber and building materials throughout southeast Queensland.

The group is also a foundation member of national trade buying group, Natbuild.

Bretts managing director Bill Nutting said the move gave the Queensland company long-term prospects in a tough economic environment.

“By tapping into the national resources and market strength of the Home Timber & Hardware group, and the synergies available through the wider Woolworths Home Improvement group, we have far greater leverage to grow our business,” he said.

“Plus, Danks’ industry leading strengths in business support will boost our operations where it matters most – marketing, freight, range and price. All of this was integral to our decision to join Home.”

Under the new venture, Bretts will remain independently-owned and operated by the Nutting family.

“Our strength in the market is growing. Together with our latest joint-venture acquisition, Hardings Hardware, the two businesses have a combined sales volume of $150million.

“This increases our scope and scale for the benefit of all independent group stores who support us,” said Home Timber & Hardware Group general manager Mark Burrowes.

Over the next four years Home aims to double the size of the group with total sales of $1.4 billion.
