The “Oceania Plantation, Forest and Wood Products Trade Conference” is to be held in Melbourne on August 8-9.

Russell Taylor, president of International WOOD MARKETS Group in Vancouver, Canada, will present on Pacific Rim Softwood Log & Lumber Overview and Trends: Is a “Super Cycle” in the Making?

This topic should capture the attention of all in the forestry and wood processing industry in Australia and New Zealand and wider afield.

Taylor spoke on a similar topic at his own conference in Vancouver in early May which was entitled 2013 Global Softwood Log & Lumber Conference, and attracted 300 delegates from around the globe – such is the interest in this topic which is vital for industry and Government players in the Pacific Rim.

Gavin Hao, forestry specialist, RISI Shanghai, will give two presentations: one is Woodchips: China HW and SW Demand, Trends and Predictions; and another on results from the new RISI China Timber Study, which will be hot off the press in mid- 2013.

Both topics directly affect the major Australian hardwood woodchip export industry; and the results from the China Timber Study will affect demand for a wider range of forest products into the future.
